Simon McDonald, Baron McDonald of Salford, is a former diplomat and crossbench peer who served as the Head of the Diplomatic Service at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2015 to 2020, leading the UK’s diplomatic service during Brexit and the early pandemic. He previously served as UK Ambassador to Germany and Israel. In July 2022, evidence he gave to Parliament during the Chris Pincher scandal sparked a government crisis which ultimately led to Boris Johnson’s resignation.
