Suzanne Raine spent more than two decades in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, working on foreign policy and national security both in London and overseas. During her career she served in postings including Poland, Iraq in 2003, and Pakistan from 2006–2009. In London, she led teams responsible for delivering national security objectives, including preparations for the 2012 London Olympic Games, and later held several of the UK government’s most senior counter-terrorism roles, including Director of the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (2015–2017).
